Neptune in Aquarius: Wiring the Ocean
Wednesday December 9, 2009

The launching of the Neptune Canada project caught my astrological eye. It's an 800 k (or nearly 500 mile) loop of high speed fiber-optic cable out off Victoria, B.C., that will be a sea floor observatory. Neptune (the sea) is now in the sign of Aquarius, which rules frontiers of science & technology, networks, connectivity and frequencies. Chris Barnes, the director of Neptune at University of Victoria, said, "We are truly at the start of a new era -- an era of wiring the ocean."

The project will gather data to better understand changing currents due to climate change, undersea volcanoes, pollution, fish populations and marine mammals. You may be able to hear whale songs via the project's line. I got the chance to see these gentle giants from a cruise ship off Canada and Alaska in August. Many indigenous traditions see whales as carriers of human history. Neptune is the planet of transcendence, oneness and dissolving of boundaries. Neptune's journey in Aquarius has heightened the fascination with whale sounds, as frequencies with an otherworldly message for humanity.

I wondered if the sensors and instruments of this project would interfere with the whale sonar. Along with sonar equipment, they're using the far-out sounding technology of hydrophones and echosounders. The team did an environmental impact before hand, and found, that disturbance to marine mammals from electromagnetic waves and such "is expected to be minor, localized and, for most potential effects, temporary in nature."

It reminds me, though, of the idea that the technologies we're creating today are a stepping stone to activating them from within, in the future. That we are made of electromagnetic currents, and have yet to use our built-in abilities to gather data about the world around us. That in the age of aquarius, we may drop our cell phones for telepathic communication, and like the whales, be able to send and receive messages through unseen currents.

Whales and Uranus/Neptune

Sacred Sound
By Molly Hall, About.com

Mystic Sea

Swimming in Currents

It seems that humanity is waking up to the mysteries of sound, waves and frequencies. Neptune, the planet of the collective ocean, is in the sign of Aquarius, which rules over these and other things like energy grids and currents. Aquarius' ruler Uranus is in Pisces, the sign that dissolves us back into the Source. These two outer planets are in "mutual reception," reinforcing each other, since they're in each other's signs. It puts a strong emphasis for the collective on the oceans and sea life, and our link to its currents.

Cetacean Cinema

Neptune rules collective dreams, especially ones that carry us toward a higher understanding of who we are. In 2003, the movie Whale Rider evoked the mysterious bond between whales and the tribe. And a film I recently saw called Whaledreamers brought that theme into real life, against the backdrop of today's global crisis. It's a movie that goes into the heart of collective longing for a way through the darkness we're living in, to a more life-affirming world. A key is looking to indigenous ways of living within nature, not outside it. Producer Julian Lennon says about the film, “Indigenous wisdom has never been more relevant for humanity than now."

Return of the Whale Dreamers

The movie centers around the Mirning people of southern Australia, who have been separated from their native land, their dreaming land. On that land, there is a Whale Rock, shaped like a whale's tail. For them it's a gateway to the stars and the aboriginal dreamtime that is a pool of past, present and future memories. When they die, says the leader of the Mirning, "It is with the whale that we return to the Morning Star."

Cut Off from Dreaming Land

This moving documentary shows the trauma of a people cut off from their spiritual gateway. But as the Mirning are encouraged by other indigenous people in a series of sacred gatherings, they start to grow stronger. Another tribe, the Yolngu, help the Mirning in a secret whale initiation ceremony. There's no talking, it's all symbols and the sounds of the didjeridu and rhythm sticks.

In a profound dream, Bunna Lorrie, the tribe's elder, is given a song by his ancestors, which he later sings at a peace event in Byron Bay. The movie goes to dark places, and has an urgent message that we each must tune in to the song coming from our very being. A Columbian shaman says in the film, "This is a song we cannot forget. If we forget this song, the world will end."

Power of the Ancestors

The inspiration of the film is that we can come back from the brink of extinction. It takes tuning in to the "global heartbeat" of Mother Earth. There's a quote in the movie that I think will be one of the core messages of transiting Pluto in Capricorn. And that's Chief Arvol Looking Horse of the Lakota Sioux saying, "Mother Earth is not a resource, but rather the Source of life itself."

The film reveals the truth that we share a history with the Earth, and have to rise up as One to defend life. The Mirning elder Lorrie ends the movie, saying, "I realized, there’s only one way forward for us. Everyone together."

Whales as Record Keepers

Many native traditions see whales as the keepers of the ancient memory of the Earth. And that in this time we are being triggered by sound frequencies, to re-awaken to ancient knowledge. It takes us into the primordial language that we share as creatures on the planet, with other living creatures. In the Medicine Cards, it's called the original language, and it acts as a trigger for knowledge encoded in the DNA. The whale is said to carry that history, and its frequencies are calls to awaken.

Is the Whale Song Changing?

In her book, 2012 and the Galactic Center, Christine Page writes that because we're 70 percent water, we cannot fail to hear the whale's message across distances. She writes, "It's interesting to note that over the past few years, the whales have been changing, aligning us to the new frequencies of consciousness that resonate with the transformation of the Earth and her inhabitants."

Page laments, however, that the navies of the world have increased their use of sonar and ELF (extremely low frequency) sound waves. There's ample evidence that the whales suffer ear damage, become disoriented, and rush to the surface to escape the noise, getting the bends. Page wonders if this assault on the cetaceans is being done to disrupt human-whale communication. She writes, "Could it be that certain powers prefer that we do not remember that we are first and foremost eternal beings?

Hearing Through the Noise

The whales are living in a much noisier sea now, and this disrupts their ability to find each other, find food, navigate. The oceans are buzzing with static, which drives them crazy and isolates them. There are many more beachings and stories of lost whales now. The same thing is happening to humans on land, with the unseen ELF's creating a cacophony of frequencies. It drives us crazy, too. These ubiquitous frequencies have the effect of wearing down consciousness, cutting us off from the "original language" of sound. It also keeps us from hearing the deeper song coming from our very being.

Uniting in Sound

The whale's plight is a mirror of our own journey back to remembering. Certain kinds of music, like drumming, help to reconnect to the primal heartbeat. Being near the ocean and its tides can also tune you into a deeper rhythm. It's helpful to minimize frequencies, like turning off the tv if it's not in use, to keep your own sonar clear. There are triggers for awakening coming through now, through images, sound or frequencies. The outer planets Neptune and Uranus create a longing to break through to that ancient way of communing with the Whole.

From Whaledreamers:

People of the world.
The ancestor whales are calling,
Come sit together again.
On our beautiful earth.
By the fire.
In ceremony.
In circle.
In nature.
It is time.
