Volatile Skies Dead Ahead
Sunday August 9, 2009
There are tensions building with the planet of raw force, Mars, in a conflicted square to authoritarian Saturn. In frenetic Gemini, Mars' impulse to act is chaotic, nervous, "all-over-the-place" vibe. Meanwhile, Saturn is in Virgo, demanding structure with the process and a focus on specifics. The square between these two can lead to haphazard strikes, accidents, and natural disasters. It's best met by being as alert and grounded as possible...watch where you're going.
Did simple carelessness or distraction cause the crash into the Hudson River between a helicopter and a small plane? The square to this volatile transit was set off by the Moon in Pisces, bringing the water element in as they hit and then plunged. This aspect has been in play, but is exact on the 10/11th (8:16 pm EDT), and caution is advised.
When these two meet, we see explosive anger (Mars) at the way things are, especially at rigid systems of control (Saturn). Being turned away at the border for a minor omission in your paperwork comes to mind. But Saturn is also the stabilizing force that meets recklessness. The town hall meetings in America are off the hook lately, as alarmed citizens try to assert their authority. It makes sense that health care is on the table, since restructuring Saturn is in its later degrees of Virgo (the sign of wellness).
Saturn for the People
At one town hall meeting in my state of Georgia, a doctor tried to pin his representative down to specifics and was met with anger, evasive behavior -- the episode being called a rant by the Congressman -- playing the role of Mars. It's easy to see cornered Mars in Gemini here, trying to talk your way out of a tight spot. But his constituent, a urologist, wanted to talk specifics on a plan that would affect his patients lives. The doctor embodied Saturn, as the one anchored in real life (Virgo), not the show of politics.
One larger theme with these town hall meetings is an orchestrated effort to keep America angry and polarized (Mars in Gemini), so we don't look at the fine print and demand accountability (Saturn in Virgo). As more citizens are roused to righteous anger, there are attempts to channel it to an fro, between the parties, instead of looking at the structure as a whole. The name calling -- Mars in Gemini using words as weapons -- exposes how ineffectual partisan thinking really is. I see a corrupt system trying desperately to save itself by pitting sides against each other. In the end, we can see these planetary energies as currents provoking us to grow. And in this case, Saturn is wearing the "white hat" as the good guy trying to bring sanity to a world gone mad.
