This New Moon in Capricorn, 2010

Waking up to What's Real
I'm using the Pacific Time of 11:11 pm, since that number is a popular meme for "waking up" to destiny. It's said to be a sign of a doorway. That's meaningful, since this New Moon -- an energetic portal -- is in Capricorn, the earth sign of establishing your foundation, in order to fulfill your life purpose. Capricorn is Saturn-ruled and doesn't mess around. It's a New Moon for re-setting your center of gravity, and that may mean ruminating on major changes in your life.
This is Part II of the eclipse series that began with the super emotional Full Moon in Cancer on New Year's Eve. This time the Moon comes in-between the Sun and Earth. The Moon blocks the Sun's rays temporarily, taking us further into the ancient memory hole of the Earth and Moon. This eclipse intensifies an already potent journey to the center. It may bring sudden events or realizations that reverberate into the months ahead.
There are count 'em FIVE planets in Capricorn, plus the direction-setting N. Node. These five are the two luminaries (Sun & Moon), along with Venus, Mercury Rx and Pluto. This takes you deep into the fertile void during this dark Moon time. You can commune with Mother Earth and your natural, essential self.
All New Moons are death-rebirth experiences, a chance to start fresh with that sign's energy stream. This is a very significant new beginning then, with Pluto in Capricorn in the driver's seat of change. It takes us to the underworld, for visions -- perhaps startling -- of what it'll take to rebuild our lives from the ground up.
Capricorn tunes us in to the concrete, the tangible, family karma and legacies, longstanding traditions and established ways of living. All this is up for review, and like the recent earth quake in Eureka, structures can be shifted completely off their foundations. The changes we're experiencing are significant, because they're so deep, and involve society as a whole. The answers don't come easily or quickly. Some people are losing the biggies -- jobs, homes, relationships, career prospects, life savings. The silver lining is that if what you've anchored your life in has changed, you're free to remake your life.
So many planets in Capricorn urge a non-emotional view. It's time is to get real, be in reality, and see what's real around you. With Venus in an exact conjunction to the Sun-Moon, this is not as awful as it sounds. In fact, it's pleasurable to get real together -- like a big sigh of relief -- so that we can begin to live more authentically. It's like coming home to who you really are deep down.
Shocks to the System
The three cozy planets in Capricorn (Sun-Moon-Venus) form a supportive sextile to Uranus in Pisces. If Saturn closes doors with endings, we may find ourselves in unfamiliar emotional territory. The upside is that sudden breakthroughs can happen that help us let go, and reach for the new, the innovative, the unusual. Uranus is a planet that shatters the status quo, opening our eyes to the world beyond. If the picture looks bleak, this New Moon may give a sampling of good things -- freedom, liberation, awakening -- that renews our faith in the future.
