World Famine:

On Wednesday's show, journalist and science writer Julian Cribb discussed the limitations to the world food supply which could result in worldwide famine by mid-century, when the population hits 10 billion. If we don't reinvent agricultural science, we could see severe famines even within 20-30 years, he reported. Increased flooding and droughts will cause crop failures and this will drive up the price of grain and food. "As the resources for agriculture get scarcer and scarcer, each one of these successive famines is going to be bigger than the one before," he cautioned.

With such famines, we'll also see "tidal movements of refugees" looking for food, he said, and this could destabilize various countries. There's a Spanish saying that "there's only seven meals between civilization and anarchy," and during famines governments could be torn down, he added. Water shortages are also going to be a huge problem, if we don't start working on alternatives now, such as desalination plants.

Additional agriculture problems include the shrinking of viable farm lands (replaced by cities), and the impending scarcity of important fertilizer ingredients such as phosphorous, he detailed. The food crisis can be solved with new efforts in science and technology, but right now the world spends 50 times more money on weapons and defense. "Food is vital to peace, if you don't have enough of it, you have war," said Cribb. He also spoke about how we could create a more sustainable existence by making dietary changes-- such as eating less meat, and grow vegetables in the cities using recycled water to combat shortages.

Haunted Queen Mary:

First hour guest, psychic Erika Frost talked about the Haunted Queen Mary, and the ship's history as an ocean liner and vessel that transported troops during wartime. Among the ghosts known to haunt the ship are "Jackie," a little girl who giggles near the pool area, and "Henry" a presence in the boiler room. Frost will be one of the hosts at the upcoming GhostFest Expo4 aboard the ship, during which George will do a live remote broadcast of C2C.

Children's Paranormal Experiences:

Joining Ian Punnett in the first half of Sunday's show, author and parapsychology expert, Ursula Bielski, discussed children's paranormal experiences. She noticed that her own child, when very young, seemed to perceive things that others couldn't see. This led her to conclude that benevolent spirits like deceased relatives might be interacting and helping out with young children. Conversely, negative entities like Shadow People can also have interactions with children, preying on their positive energy and openness, when they are away from adults, she noted. Typically, kids' paranormal perceptions fade away as they get older, she added.

Bielski spoke about some well-known incidents of the paranormal involving children, such as the Tina Resch poltergeist case. As a teenager, the girl had telekinetic episodes, with objects flying around her such as eggs that came out of the refrigerator, and a telephone handset ( photo).

Interestingly, a number of toys may be haunted, she revealed. One of the best known cases is that of Annabelle, a giant sized Raggedy Ann doll. Annabelle was said to come to life, attacking two girls, and scratching a boy. Ed & Lorraine Warren conducted an investigation and concluded that an entity had entered the doll, because the owners had spoke to it like a person. Bielski also shared stories about growing up in a haunted house, and Chicago lore, like the case of "Seaweed Charlie," the ghost of a pilot who crashed in Lake Michigan and was seen covered in seaweed near where he was buried at Calvary Cemetery. The latter half of the show featured Open Lines.

Cosmology & the Universe:

On Wednesday's show, co-author with Stephen Hawking of the best-seller Brief History of Time, Caltech physicist Leonard Mlodinow discussed his current work with Hawking on the grand design of the universe and two central questions-- where does the universe come from, and why are the laws of nature what they are? Hawking's theories and the latest research in physics were used to answer those questions. While the conditions for life are just right on Earth, Mlodinow noted that we're looking backwards at the situation-- whatever conditions it took for us to get here, have already happened.

The notion of the multiverse (many universes each with their own physical laws) is a consequence of Hawking's theory of cosmology, said Mlodinow. These various universes arose from nothing, but we now understand from quantum theory that the state of nothingness is actually very unstable, and that "things are always coming and going from nothingness," he explained. Hawking's picture of the universe incorporates three theories:

A "no boundary" condition in which time becomes a dimension that looks like space.
M theory-- an extension of string theory dealing with forces like gravity.
Top Down Cosmology-- a new quantum approach that suggests the cosmos has many different simultaneous histories.
Mlodinow also reviewed the Big Bang theory of the origin of the universe, and the search at the Large Hadron Collider for the theoretical Higgs boson particle. Interestingly, Hawking has predicted that the Higgs particle will not be found.

Behind Conspiracy Theories:

On Sunday night's program, George Knapp welcomed author David Aaronovitch for an examination of the origins of conspiracy theories, why people believe them, and also to make an argument for a true skepticism based on a thorough knowledge of history and a strong dose of common sense. Based on his research, Aaronovitch defined a conspiracy theory as "an explanation for something which is far more complicated and removes responsibility from the obvious people to the not obvious people, in situations where the more obvious explanation is more likely."

Aaronovitch detailed a number of problematic attributes which he feels "attach themselves" to conspiracy theories and those who subscribe to them:


Conspiracy theories do not allow for accident, incompetence, or coincidence.
The official version of events "almost always, at its heart" has anomalies that cannot be reconciled.
Scholars, usually with exaggerated credentials, are named as proponents of the theory.
The theory is anti-elite and, thus, the theorist becomes "kind of a minuteman" warning the populace about the "powers that be."
On why there needs to be skepticism about conspiracy theories, Aaronovitch used the example of recent developments in the UK which arose as a result of rumors that vaccines cause autism. He explained that this theory became so pervasive that people began to stop having their children vaccinated. In turn, Aaronovitch lamented, the measles virus re-emerged back into the population after it had been eradicated in previous years. "This stuff has to be combated because it does have consequences for people," he declared. On a far larger scale, he noted that the widespread belief in the fraudulent Protocols of the Elders of Zion in Nazi Germany acted as a proverbial "warrant for genocide" for many misguided players in WWII.

Aaronovich also looked at a number of suspect issues surrounding a variety of conspiracy theories. With regards to the Moon Landing hoax, he observed that to complete such a fabrication would require far more manpower than the actual lunar landing itself. In addition to that, he pointed out that lunar conspiracy theorists often focus solely on the Apollo 11 landing and ignore the many other trips made to the moon. Regarding 9/11, Aaronovich conceded that the official version of events is also a conspiracy theory, but that its very simplicity is what makes this theory much more plausible than a grand overarching plan by nefarious forces inside the US government. To that end, he noted that if the government was truly clever enough to "organize conspiracies," then they would have planted WMDs in Iraq rather than invade the country and find none. "It would have been a much simpler thing to do," he mused, "and yet they didn't."





Toxic Effects:

On Saturday night's show, Ian Punnett was joined by the "Toxic Reverend," Tom Krohmer, who discussed his personal journey to track the effects of toxic chemicals and environmental conditions on human health. In the first half hour, Ian spoke with sports conspiracist Brian Tuohy about the start of the NFL season... cont.

On this date in 1973, Billy Jean King defeated Bobby Riggs in one of the most famous tennis matches in history. Dubbed " The Battle of the Sexes," the intergender showdown drew over 30,000 spectators to Houston's Astrodome and was televised in over 35 countries. Considered a landmark event for women's rights, the victory helped cement King's future title of "mother of modern day sports."

Preparedness & Evolution:

Board certified in disaster medicine and adviser for FEMA’s NW region, Geoffrey Simmons discussed preparedness as well as his work with Darwin, Creation and the evolution of man. Lamenting that most people are woefully unprepared for disasters, he cited studies which say that "only about 25 percent of people have significant preparedness." The reasons for this stunningly low statistic, Simmons said, include a dismissive attitude about the possibility of a disaster, procrastination, and a lack of funding or proper education about the subject. Hoping to rectify that final reason, Simmons shared a litany of "do's and don'ts" to help people safely survive a disaster.

Among the "do's" were to have a preparedness kit which includes food and water, a flashlight, and gloves. He also suggested that families should have a post-disaster meeting place, an out of town contact to serve as a communication conduit, and that each family member should have designated roles, such as precuring important paperwork and pets. Many of the "don'ts" listed by Simmons were predicated on self-reliance and acceptance that first responders, stores, and credit/debit cards simply will not be fuctioning in the event of a disaster. While water is essential to survival in a disaster, it was also a key aspect in two of Simmons' "don'ts." He explained that it is imperative that you do not open canned goods that were submerged in flood water, since they could be contaminated. Additionally, he advised that people should not attempt to dive down roads that appear to only be mildly flooded, as the water s can obscure the true damage the pathway has sustained.

In discussing his research into evolution, Simmons, who is a proponent for creationism, stressed that his opinion is less a theological one and more based on what he sees as "common sense." As such, he opined that nature's complexity does not support the "trial and error" aspect behind the theory of evolution. For example, he claimed that the structure and function of a cell is "more complicated than the city of New York," which was obviously created by intelligent design. Simmons suggested that the solution to the origin debate may merely be a matter of time. To that end, he pointed out that a contemporary of Darwin once listed 200 human attributes that were believed to be non-essential and, thus, bolstered the argument for evolution. However, Simmons said, "it turns out, of the 200, that's been pared down, through the years, to about six." Taking this concept to its logical conclusion, he surmised that as ou r understanding of nature reveals further complexities, "it will be science that disproves itself."

Titanic Revelations:

In the first hour, author David Brown discussed the recent news which allegedly shed new light on the sinking of the Titanic. He was dismissive of the idea that the story was particularly revelatory, since the officer in question admitted that "they had to apply whitewash" in his own autobiography. Brown theorized that the surviving officers of the Titanic were circumspect about the nature of the disaster in order to protect their future careers. "I don't want to even hint at some dark conspiracy," he said, "but, in fact, I think there was somewhat of a cover-up." He said that "there is no question it was an accident, but the evidence I see is that the ship was deliberately turned into the iceberg, but not intentionally turned into the iceberg." Extrapolating on that theory, Brown proposed that the crew was likely trying to avoid ice and accidentally steered the ship into further danger and, ultimately, infamy.

While it has become a ubiquitous presence in nearly every American home, the origins of the television remain shrouded in relative historic obscurity. However, Paul Schatzkin's The Boy Who Invented Television details the remarkable story of Philo T. It was particularly notable as the discovery was based on a theoretical prediction rather than visual observation. Happy Birthday, Typhoid Mary!-- born on Sept. 23, 1869. The Irish immigrant, a "healthy carrier" of typhoid fever, unwittingly spread the deadly disease around New York.

Mayans & 2012:

In the first half of Tuesday's show, editor and author Robert Gleason joined George live in the studios at WOR in New York City to talk about the ancient Mayans, prophecies, and 2012. The Maya, who were great astronomers and mathematicians, had five long count calendars which could be considered more like countdowns than calendars, he said. They revered prophecies, astral insights, and shamans, and believed that the stars were all gods that controlled all aspects of life on Earth, he continued. 1,000 years ago, one of their gods, Quetzalcoatl, was incarnated as one of the Toltec Kings, they believed.

Gleason has found similarities between the Bible's Book of Revelation and the Mayan's end time visions. Revelation refers to Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and the Mayans had their equivalent with four catastrophes, he noted. "In both cases the rein of humanity comes to an end on Earth," he added, noting that there is a scientific basis for various catastrophes such as drought, and depletion of resources. There have been five major extinction events in evolutionary history, and "we're going through number six now," Gleason suggested.

Optimal Health:

In the second half of the show, MIT educated chemist Dr. Raymond Francis shared his approach to health. There is really only one disease, he said, and that is the malfunctioning of cells, which is brought about by either deficiencies or toxicities. The body can become imbalanced by ingredients as aspartame and MSG, and people should take care to avoid them, as well as sugar, and wheat, he outlined.

While he advocated taking supplements like Vitamin C, Francis advised people to seek out quality products (he offers a free report on choosing the right supplements). A critic of the American system of medicine, he suggested that their whole paradigm is wrong-- "only 10-15% has any basis in science, and the rest of it...is just basically a collection of anecdotes, and that's why it doesn't work." Modern medicine is all about suppressing the symptoms of disease with drugs and surgery, instead of looking at the roots causes of a problem, he added.

Space News & Disclosure:

In the first half of Wednesday's show, Coast to Coast AM science advisor Richard C. Hoagland talked about disclosure and space news. Disclosure should be about more than just UFOs, he suggested, --it needs to include aliens, human relatives, our suppressed ancient history, and the hidden history of our solar system. He also lauded the new NBC series The Event for dealing with disclosure issues.

Regarding a new exoplanet discovery, he expressed excitement that it was in the habitable zone and might have gravity similar to Earth's. Discussing the Martian moon, Phobos, he characterized it as a "15 mile-long artificial ship" that is hollow and contains huge empty spaces and rooms. Hoagland will be speaking on the disclosure topic at the upcoming CSETI Conference in Arizona.

Afghanistan War:

In the latter half, CIA-trained senior intelligence operations officer, Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer, shared revelations about his participation in the ground war in Afghanistan. The country, with its difficult terrain, has been referred to as the "graveyard of empires," and has tribal rivalries that date as far back as 10,000 years, he noted. He described his involvement in special operations there, "during the day running clinics, at night, running raids." This kind of special ops war left a minimal footprint, he added.

As much as some of the Afghan people didn't like Americans being in their country, their culture understands vengeance, and accepted the US' mission, he explained. However, our continued expansion there took on the quality of an occupation, and became counter-productive, he commented. Shaffer also spoke about his creation of Operation Dark Heart, aimed at creating mental terror in Taliban safe havens.

Disease Prevention:

In the first half of Sunday's show hosted by George Noory, Dr. Martha Grout and medical journalist Mary Budinger discussed how a variety of diseases and health problems can be treated with alternative medicine approaches. They noted that while October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they'd like to see people shift from awareness to prevention. "We already know what causes the cancer to grow," said Budinger, who cited exposure to chemicals in the daily environment, as well as electromagnetic pollution. The focus on mammography is not helpful, as women are irradiated during the tests, and this may actually cause cancer, noted Grout.

The technique of thermography, which measures the heat signature that comes off the body, and detects inflammation, is a safer alternative to mammography, she added. For cancer patients, an alternative to standard chemotherapy is Insulin Potentiated Therapy- which targets cancerous cells by combining glucose with low does of chemo, Dr. Grout detailed. Budinger shared revelations on such conditions as heart disease and skin cancer:

Cholesterol is required by the body to form cell membranes, and has never been shown to be causative of heart disease.
Rather than sun exposure, skin cancer is associated with a lack of Omega 3 in people's diets.

Spiritual Messages:

In the second half of the show, Nick Bunick talked about his incredible spiritual journey, beginning in 1995 when a psychic told him that in a previous reincarnation he knew Jesus, and that he was actually the Apostle Paul (interestingly, he noted that reincarnation was part of the early Christian belief system, but eliminated in 553 AD). He discussed his book, Time for Truth, which he wrote by channeling messages from the spirit realm.

At a variety of lectures that he's given, Bunick said that numerous people have reported seeing a 7 ft. tall lavender-colored angel standing behind him. He also talked about the significance of the number 444, which he repeatedly saw-- it's a message from angels and spirit guides letting you know that they're in your life. The soul is multidimensional which allows for reincarnation, and the spiritual world is our real home, he added.



Rogue Waves:

In the first half of Saturday's program, Ian Punnett was joined by author Susan Casey for a discussion of her book, The Wave, which examines the ocean's most monstrous walls of water, and some of the people who attempt to ride them. Casey outlined different kinds of giant waves, including tsunamis and storm waves, but focused chiefly on the mysterious and deadly rogue waves. The mechanism that generates rogue waves is largely unknown, though it is thought to involve wave-current interactions, she explained... cont.

Space News:

In the first half of Monday's show, space historian Robert Zimmerman discussed NASA, space technology, and climate research, as well as planets and asteroids. While the US government's manned space program seems stalled at this point, commercial development is picking up some of the slack, he said. NASA in the end will become a customer, subsidizing private companies to build rockets and capsules, he added, noting that Boeing is developing a capsule to get people up into space.

There are places on Mars that seem to recycle methane, and this is a significant discovery because it suggests there could be microbial life producing the effect, he said. The sun may be going through a quiet/dimming phase and this could cause a cooling over the Earth in the next couple of decades. Whether global warming might counteract this trend remains to be determined, Zimmerman noted. He also talked about the necessity for humankind to leave the planet to start colonies. Beyond increasing our chances for survival, "it's just glorious fun and it ennobles us," he commented.

He shared his proposal for a "transorbital railroad," which doesn't require new technology but is rather a new way of doing business. In this model, the US govt. would regularly schedule space launches of medium and heavy lift vehicles, and extra payloads that could be available for use by entrepreneurs. This would encourage more enterprise by making it cheaper for people to do things in space, he explained.

Zubrin spoke in favor of the Open Fuel Standard Act, which would mandate that all new automobiles offer flex fuel-- a choice between gas or methanol. This would help fence in the price of gas, and also break America's dependence on foreign oil, he suggested.

On Tuesday's show, British paranormal expert Richard Lawrence discussed ET contacts and communications, UFO disclosure, and ancient reports of UFOs. He spoke about various contactees such as George Adamski, and George King, who founded the Aetherius Society and channeled messages from benevolent ET beings or "Space Masters." One of themes that runs across the various communications from ETs is the importance of spirituality throughout the universe, Lawrence noted.

King spoke about intelligences from within our solar system and multi-dimensional existences, while 1950s contactee Dan Fry said the beings he interacted with were from the past, specifically the civilization of Atlantis. In King's book, The Nine Freedoms, he shares ET information about humankind's evolution-- one of the first evolutionary steps is bravery, to think outside of the standard conditioning, and another step is to become oriented toward service-to-others, rather than service-to-self.

Ancient Sanskrit texts refer to vimanas-- flying celestial vehicles, which could "cause the entire sky to blaze." Some of these writings specifically describe the propulsion systems, he added. A UFO incident that took place in 1180 AD in Japan concerned a shiny aerial object that changed directions, vanished, and reappeared. It was referred to as a "flying earthenware vessel, so the [term] 'flying saucer' was actually coined back in the 12th century," Lawrence mused, adding that Alexander the Great and Columbus were also said to have UFO sightings.

A Look at Witchcraft:

First hour guest, scholar of magick and folklore, Judika Illes, talked about witches and witchcraft. To define a witch, she quoted author Aline DeWinter, who said "a witch is a person who sees everything as alive and powerful, who walks in a sacred manner, and all of nature responds." Witches can be healers, wisdom keepers, and practitioners of the Wiccan religion, noted Illes. The bottom line of witchcraft is that everything radiates some sort of energy, and you can harness that energy to improve your own life, she explained.

Fear & Courage:

In the first half of Tuesday's show, author and consultant Nina Lesowitz talked about how fears and phobias hold people back, and the ways courage can be utilized for strength and power. The top 10 fears from bottom up are swimming/drowning, storms, public transportation esp. airplanes, crowds, tunnels & bridges, spiders, heights, confined spaces, snakes, and public speaking. Such phobias are often developed early in life, she noted.

Lesowitz herself overcame her fear of public speaking. One of her methods to combat fear and draw courage is to spend five minutes at the start of the day envisioning in her mind a positive outcome to whatever she is anxious about. She cited several tales of courage including that of the blind violinist Romel Joseph who survived 18 hours pinned under concrete during the Haitian earthquake. "He hummed and played music in his mind...and remained hopeful and believed that he would come through it," she detailed, adding that we will likely hear stories of bravery emerging from the just rescued Chilean miners.

Consciousness & Light:

In the latter half of the show, medical consultant and writer T. 'Lee' Baumann, MD shared his theories about the mind and consciousness and their connections to light, God, and spirituality. He cited research which indicates the brain emits a small amount of electromagnetic radiation or ELF radio waves, which he suggested are part of a vast electromagnetic network that permeates the universe, and links our consciousness. This could explain various paranormal phenomena, he added.

Electromagnetic radiation or light exists without time, and could be considered "extra-dimensional," he said. Light waves are also "omnipresent," existing everywhere at once, allowing instantaneous travel throughout the universe, he theorized. Baumann noted that during some near-death experiences, people such as Dannion Brinkley and Betty Eadie have described beams of light coming up from the Earth. They were told by divine spirits that these beams "were prayers from people on Earth," he recounted.

Ghosts & the Paranormal:

Longtime paranormal investigator Paul Eno discussed various ghost cases that he's worked on, as well as his theory regarding parallel realms. "Many of the things we interpret as ghosts are actually people living lives...in parallel worlds that impinge upon on ours," he suggested. As an example, he cited his investigation of a haunting at a church in Virginia. While there, he communicated with an entity who said he was a janitor at a Roman Catholic convent, and sought forgiveness from God. Yet, there was no such convent in the area, Eno noted.

Eno's son, Benjamin, who has taken after his father in the field of paranormal investigations, joined the program for a segment to talk about a case in a Vermont home, where a demonic entity (or parasite) fed off the negative energy of a police officer and his wife. He also described a mediumistic encounter with an alien grey-type being, whom he said sought passage from one realm to another.

Paul Eno discounted the idea of the "Other Side," noting that various beings are already where they're supposed to be-- "essentially, I believe you make your own bed in the multiverse; it's all part of nature...when your conscious body passes on you just become conscious of another place where you are, according to the path of least resistance." He also recounted a host of strange phenomena that has occurred at a Connecticut farmhouse, and a tale of a ghostly grandfather who gently guided his own five-year-old grandson toward a peaceful death from leukemia.

Mortgages & Foreclosures:

First hour guest, real estate insider Peter Hebert talked about mortgages and foreclosures. The current situation of many home foreclosures being put on hold was brought about by sloppy paperwork on the banks' part, he commented. Hebert advised the average homeowner to think of themselves like a private corporation-- with their own board of directors-- which means a really good loan officer, accountant or CPA, real estate agent, and attorney.

Edge Times:

Appearing during the middle two hours of Thursday's show, author Daniel Pinchbeck discussed the radical changes happening in society and the world, and where we are headed as we approach 2012. He also touched on psychedelic and shamanic experiences. Evolution has shifted from survival of the fittest to the level of consciousness, culture, and metaphysics, he commented. As we move into alignment with the galactic center, the current paradigm is ending like a snake shedding its skin, and there are great opportunities for change, he continued.

He suggested that people regain basic life skills, such as farming and herbalism, in the event of some type of upheaval in America, such as outlined in the book Reinventing Collapse by Dmitry Orlov. Pinchbeck also spoke about shifting to a new monetary system that is not based on competition and scarcity. For instance, as Bernard Lietaer has proposed, there could be a trading currency that has negative interest which would discourage people from hoarding, and create community bonds. A number of these ideas are explored in the new documentary, 2012: Time for Change, based in part on Pinchbeck's books.

Shamanism and ayahuasca (hallucinogenic plant) journeys are receiving increased attention. "One of the most beautiful experiences I've had with ayahuasca," said Pinchbeck, "was working with the Secoya tribe in Ecuador," where the all shamans lie in hammocks in a temple, and sing specific icaros in which "you feel like they're guiding you to different planes or dimensions of reality." A renaissance of psychedelic use in the modern west could be seen as pointing toward a new reformation, returning direct religious experience to the people, he noted.

NYC UFO Sighting:

First hour guest, author Timothy Green Beckley reported on the recent UFO sighting over Manhattan. The incident, which has gathered a lot of media attention, began on the morning of October 13th in the Chelsea neighborhood, and lasted for hours, he said. Some witnesses described the object as looking like a "jellyfish made of light," he added.

UFO Prediction:

In the first hour, ex-NORAD officer Stan Fulham talked about his prediction that a fleet of UFOs would hover over the Earth's major cities on October 13th. Fulham explained that he receives his insight from a "transcended spiritual group," which consists of "very old souls who have lived on many different planets and spiritual realms." According to him, the UFO visitation is because the Earth's environment has been polluted beyond the point of human salvation and, thus, the ETs must intervene to fix the situation. Unlike other planets, where the inhabitants were allowed to pollute their environment to the point of mass extinction, the Earth has the "greatest emotionally energy of any planet" in the universe and, therefore, was granted this special aid from off-world forces.

Fulham clarified his prediction's timetable with new information that he allegedly received three weeks ago. Originally, the entities planned to appear over a plethora of major Earth cities on October 13th, 2010. They had no intention of landing or communicating with the planet, instead opting merely to make their presence known in gradually increasing appearances. This would culminate with an outright address at the United Nations in 2014 and then they would commence cleaning the environment in 2015. However, Fulham said, the ETs grew wary of causing mass panic with their original 10/13/10 plan and decided to just appear over New York City on that date. The reasons given for the choice of NYC was that it is an international city, a media stronghold, and that New Yorkers are "a blase people" who would be nonplussed by the appearance of a UFO in the sky.

The Nature of Ghosts:

In the second hour, paranormal researcher David Pitkin discussed how spirits and ghosts are not scary, powerful forces but a natural part of our transition from the earthly plane to the spirit world. Based on his research, Pitkin speculated that around 80 to 85% of ghost encounters are really from family members and friends who are "just a little stunned by the process of death." On why ghosts do not move on to the proverbial 'other side,' Piken offered a number of potential theories such as the possibility that the deceased does not know they are dead yet or that they have "unfinished business" with someone here in the earthly realm. "I get cranky with people who use all kinds of fear tactics and misinformation on people about ghosts," Pitkin mused, "when actually we could be helping ghosts to cross over."

Pitkin pointed out a variety of methods that appear to be used by spirits to contact their corporeal friends and family. On a personal level, he recalled one subtle instance where his late aunt, who had been dismissive of his interest in ghosts, seemingly filled his car with the scent of a specific lily that the both of them had grown. Upon the realizing what was happening, Pitkin greeted her and the smell almost instantly dissipated. He also speculated that poltergeists may not necessarily be evil spirits, but rather a deceased loved one who is trying to make an indisbutable appearance via a mischevious prank such as opening all the kitchen cabinet doors. Ultimately, Pitkin opined that these visitations are because "most people who pass over want to let at least one family member know 'hey, I've made it.'"

David J. Pitkin

Retired teacher and author David J. Pitkin has sought solutions to mysteries throughout his life. In the 1960s he became fascinated with the workings of the unconscious mind and on the growing evidence for ghosts and hauntings: consciousness surviving body death. Aliens & Secret Govt. Group:

On Sunday night, UFO researcher Nick Redfern joined George Knapp to talk about a secret group within the U.S. government known as the Collins Elite, who believe our purported alien visitors are actually deceptive demonic entities. Redfern first learned of the group's existence, through Ray Boeche, an Anglican priest, and former director of Nebraska's MUFON. Boeche said back in 1991 he met with two men from the Defense Dept. who told him about a secret project to contact NHE's (non-human entities). They showed him photographs of people who allegedly died during experiments while contacting the NHEs, and contended that the beings they communicated with were simply masquerading as ETs.

Eventually, Redfern interviewed a man in his 80s named Richard Duke, who claimed to be a member of the Collins Elite up until 1960, and recalled many specific details about the group. The group took its inspiration from occultist Aleister Crowley's ritual in which he reportedly made contact with an interdimensional entity named Lam. Later, in the 1940s, rocket scientist Jack Parsons engaged in similar experiments trying to invoke a being, and subsequent UFO sightings may have been enabled through his opening of a portal, the group believed. According to Duke, the Collins Elite also suspected that various contactees in the 1950s, such as George Hunt Williamson, who used a Oujia board for ET communications, were experiencing demonic deceptions.

In the 1960s, the Collins Elite examined a number of NDE reports, such as one in which deceased humans moved through a hellish landscape as a UFO-type craft hovered overhead, extracting their souls with a ball of light, Redfern detailed. "They eventually came to the conclusion...that the human soul possesses some sort of energy, which these entities can use as sustenance...In other words, they're harvesting human souls," he said, adding that the group believed that a strong religious viewpoint, such as Christian fundamentalism could keep the demonic entities at bay.



The World in 2050:

On Saturday's program, Ian Punnett welcomed UCLA geography professor Laurence Smith, who discussed how trends in population, global trade, resources, and the climate will profoundly shape the world by 2050. He explained that the premise behind his work was a "broad, sweeping thought experiment of what the world might be like in 40 years, should things continue as they are now." While each trend has its own effects, Smith noted that it is when these trends work in concert with each other that the outcome is particularly potent. He used water scarcity as an example and noted that, in the future, the problem will be more the result of population growth and industrialization rather than the usual suspect that is climate change... cont.

Ancient Mysteries & Parallel Dimensions:

On Monday's show, author and investigator Graham Hancock talked about his research into ancient mysteries, supernatural beings, and parallel realms. He discussed the archaeological discovery of the megalithic site at Gobekli Tepe in Turkey, dating back almost 12,000 years old. On a scale like Stonehenge (though far older), "the site is constructed out of giant stones which have been carved very precisely often with reliefs of animals and strange supernatural figures," he noted. There is no context for a site like this in archaeological study; "it just seems to come out of nowhere...in a fully formed, incredibly impressive state," almost like a buried time capsule, he said.

Our world could be interpenetrated by other dimensions or realms that are most often undetectable, Hancock stated, adding that this could account for the UFO phenomenon which seems quite elusive. These other dimensions could also include the spirit world. He cited how cave paintings dating back thousands of years depicted spirit or supernatural beings. During the medieval era people spoke about fairies, elves, and the realms they inhabited, while today alien abduction and UFO craft are reported. What we're seeing is actually one phenomena "viewed through different cultural spectacles" that originates in a parallel dimension or realm, he explained.

He also talked about his recent novel Entangled, which deals with time travel, NDEs, and the supernatural. Interestingly, in his book he featured neanderthal characters who were compassionate, and now well after he wrote the work, scientific reports have just emerged that suggest neanderthals were indeed nurturing and caring, and not the brutish thugs most people picture.

Botched Surgeries:

First half-hour guest, Dr. Philip Stahel talked about the increase in botched surgeries, specifically wrong side (of the body), and wrong patient operations. He noted the importance of following the correct protocol such as writing the word "yes" in permanent marker on the part of the body to be operated on, as well as the patient being proactive about a hospital's quality assurance process.

Mathematical Deceptions:

On Thursday's program, Prof. Charles Seife discussed the art of using pure mathematics for impure ends. He used the term "proofiness," (an analogue of Stephen Colbert's term "truthiness") to describe how people use numbers to prove things that they believe in their hearts are true, even if they're not factually true. People often lie in polls to make themselves feel better, he reported. For instance, in surveys men will typically overestimate the number of sexual partners they have had, while women will underestimate the number.

Advertising often uses numbers fabricated out of whole cloth, like saying a moisturizer delivers 70% more moisture in every drop. Ads are just "larded with...completely meaningless numbers that are supposedly backed by some sort of research which is either dubious or non-existent," he declared. Politicians sometimes manipulate the scale of graphs to make it appear like a dramatic effect or change is occurring, such as with tax cuts or budgets. Al Gore, in his film An Inconvenient Truth, exaggerated climate projections, as a way to further his agenda, Seife added.

Numbers are often inflated to make a person or organization seem more important, such as the number of people in attendance at a rally, or the circulation of readers for newspapers and magazines, he noted. Seife also discussed various developments in science, such as the Large Hadron Collider experiments at CERN. If "a certain pattern of missing energy turns up, it could be a very good sign that we have found another dimension beyond our own," he reflected.

Food Contamination:

First hour guest, food safety expert Jeff Nelken commented on contamination issues, such as in the recent case of 5 deaths associated with celery tainted with Listeria. This bacteria can be found in the soil, and can actually live inside a refrigerator, he detailed. Nelken advised people to keep a thermometer in the fridge, with an ideal temperature of 38-40 degrees, which would slow down the bacterial process.

Ancient UFOs:

In the first half of Sunday's program, George Knapp was joined by legendary Ufologist Jacques Vallee for a discussion on UFO sightings from biblical-era antiquity through the year 1879. Over the course of the conversation, he also talked about remote viewing and provided his take on the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis (ETH), crash retrievals and disclosure. Contrary to the skeptics who discount 'classic' UFO sightings as mere folklore, Vallee declared that the detail and longevity of the cases merit a more serious examination. "For them to have been recorded, the way they were recorded, they had to be felt to be very important to that civilization," he said. Additionally, Vallee noted that most of the cases come from prominent officials like kings and bishops, since they were often the only people capable of actually documenting and preserving their sightings.

Detailing one of the cases profiled in the book, Vallee described a Chinese UFO sighting from 1277. In this case, the witness described a very bright star that appeared to have a dome above it, moved "in a zigzag, like a dead leaf," interacted with other flying objects, and disappeared almost instantly. Noting the similarity to contemporary UFO accounts, Vallee said, "I get letters like this from readers of my books today, with almost the same words." Having examined over 500 cases for his new book, the esteemed researcher confessed that "one of the secret pleasures of working with this material is to look at how people explained it." To that end, he observed that even during these classic cases, "there was always some 'wise guy' in the crowd who had an explanation," often ascribing a political or religious meaning to the event. "They had all these explanations, just like the Air Force today," mused Vallee .

After Disclosure:

In the latter half of Sunday's show, George Knapp welcomed Richard Dolan and Bryce Zabel, who talked about their new book After Disclosure, which examines what life will be like after the reality of UFOs is revealed. Despite what has been a fruitless, decades-long fight for answers to the UFO enigma, the authors contended that disclosure is an inevitability. "There's going to be a time, a day, a moment, an event," Dolan said, "something in which the 'powers that be' are forced to make the decision to disclose." From there, Zabel surmised, "when they do decide they have to give it up, because events are spinning out of their own control, they'll try to manage it, even as it goes public." Having looked at the various possible scenarios where UFO disclosure becomes such a necessity, they determined that an incontrovertible, mass UFO sighting recorded by modern technology would be the most likely event.

Detailing how they think UFO disclosure would unfold, the authors speculated that the announcement may occur on a Friday afternoon. They theorized that this timing would be used to off-set a potentially catastrophic stock market reaction and to also allow for the general public to use the weekend to digest the stunning news. The duo traced the disclosure announcement from the first day, which they foresee as a time of confusion and potential panic, to the first week, when people would begin asking questions about why and how this news remained secret for so long. This call for accountability, they said, would result in a paradoxical relationship between society and the media, military, and government, where they would be blamed for "missing" the story but also looked to for answers and protection. Ultimately, Zabel and Dolan put forward the idea that, while the first post-disclosure year would be "a bumpy ride," society will eventually stabilize as it becomes acclimated to the new world that has emerged from beneath the veil of secrecy.

On this date in 1944, the Japanese began using kamikaze attacks against Allied Forces during World War II. The strategy was seen as a last resort by both sides of the war, as Japan had as-yet failed to gain an upper hand in the naval battle against the Allies. Ultimately, the kamikaze attacks resulted in nearly 1,500 Japanese craft being intentionally downed and the deaths of approximately 3,000 British and American troops, but did little to thwart the advances of the Allied Forces.

Inner Earth, Egypt, & Consciousness:

On Monday's show, electrical engineer and Doctor of Physics Brooks Agnew discussed ancient Egypt, new physics, cosmology, consciousness, and time travel. He also shared an update on his planned North Pole Inner Earth Expedition, which could now take place in the summer of 2012 along the Arctic Circle, pending the availability of an icebreaker ship. The expedition also faces funding issues, which has delayed it in the past. Interestingly, he noted there is research that shows there could be a large ocean that lies underneath the crust of the Atlantic ocean.

Finding the Inner Earth could prove to be especially beneficial if the planet faces a global catastrophe, he said. According to a manuscript found in Abydos, Egypt, the ancient Egyptians might have fled to the Inner Earth to escape a cataclysm, possibly at a desert town called Damenhur. As part of Agnew's upcoming Egyptian Tour, they will stop at Damenhur to investigate this location.

Citing how time slows down at the speed of light, Agnew said he is able to experience a kind of time travel while practicing a 17th breath meditation, in which he goes to a world that has a different sky than Earth's. He also talked about physics research that indicates certain particles are coming into our universe from another dimension. There is a missing construct in physics which may involve human consciousness in the formation of matter, he added.

Ghost Rescuers:

Intuitive counselor Ronnie Rennae Foster and Wiccan practitioner Laura Lee Mistycah, known as the ' Ghost Buster Gals,' appeared in the first hour. The two are not traditional ghost busters but could be thought of as "ghost rescuers for souls that are lost or stuck or caught in between worlds," Foster explained. Mistycah talked about how she uses a " stone of truth" to access information at haunted sites and reverse curses.

Twenty-two years later, Buckner returned to Boston to throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the 2008 season and received a four-minute standing ovation from the remorseful Fenway Park crowd.
